About Us

Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History was established in 1994 according to the articles 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 amended by Law No. 2880 and article 3 of Law No. 2809 at the meeting of the Board of Directors of YÖK on 08/06/1994, but started its studies in 2003 with the appointment of a founding faculty member. In the academic year 2004-2005, 30 students were admitted to the English Preparation Program and the teaching started in the academic year 2005-2006. In our department, the second educational program has started since the 2011-2012 academic year. Currently, 100% Turkish education is provided within the framework of the education plan that will be updated in 2019.
Vision and Mission
As the Department of History, our basic mission is to provide resources and opportunities for our students to acquire the necessary tools to study Turkish history. We aim to provide our students with the vision to produce solutions to the current problems of historiography and to read historical documents with new historiographical methods.


Department Facilities
The Department of History is composed of faculty members who have knowledge and equipment in the field of history, who are able to make objective evaluations, and who aim to pass on their knowledge and experience to future generations in a proper way. At present, it continues to provide undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education in accordance with the principles of the higher education institution with its rich academic staff consisting of 16 faculty members and 3 research assistants. The Faculty of History, whose medium of instruction is Turkish, has 5 departments: Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History, Contemporary History and History of the Republic of Turkey. Students studying in our department have the opportunity to gain experience in different universities and institutions through international (Erasmus) and national (Farabi) student exchange programs.

Career Opportunities
Our department aims to train historians who have sufficient knowledge of history with a curriculum that covers various areas of world history as well as Turkish history. Those who successfully complete the undergraduate program of the History Department and receive pedagogical training can work as "History Teachers" in secondary schools. In addition, they can work in various fields, such as working in state archives and libraries, or become faculty members in history departments of universities and colleges by completing master's and doctoral theses.
